TEQUILA MARENGO BY: BEBIDAS

BRIEF HISTORY

Tequila Marengo originates from a small town of Arenal, Jalisco, Mexico. The fertile agave mountain range region of Arenal, Jalisco is located in the heartland of Mexico and is the biological root and home of the original native indigenous residents called Tequilas.  The word Marengo signifies the color gray/silver in Spanish.

From these fertile and historical lands, Don Joaquin Gonzalez Lara and Don Arturo Gonzalez Luera and family have formed an association to produce and distribute a superior tequila, named after Napoleon Bonaparte’s famous horse – Marengo, as well as Don Gonzalez Lara’s grandfathers horse of the same name.

From the personal selection of the rich fields for planting of the hijidos (selected seeds of blue agave), the cultivation and jornada (harvest) of the blue agave to the distillation, bottling, aging of the reposado tequila in royal oak barrels, loading and shipping to the global market and importation into foreign countries to the distribution of Tequila Marengo within those countries, all is handled by the dual family circle.

MYTH AND NAME

Mexico’s beloved history evolves from its indigenous peoples (indios) to the blending throughout the centuries of numerous cultures found in the Americas.  Mexico holds dear its linkage to the French and Italian culture and histories.

From the colorful Mariachi (Mexico’s beloved music of its people), the struggles for independence to the basic life tied to their development of its land, Mexico has flourished from its blend of foreign cultures.

The name Marengo is both reality and myth. In Italy lies a beautiful town name d’ Marengo.  At this location Napoleon Bonaparte met in battle against the renown armies of Austria for a decisive battle the power to dominate the vast area of northern Italy and France during 1699.  It is believed that Napoleon Bonaparte had numerous famous horses that led him into battle, one of which was surnamed Marengo.

Later on Mexico’s history was impacted by the country of France when the Prince Maximillian of Austria entered Vera Cruz, Mexico and proclaimed himself Emperor of Mexico at the request of Napoleon Bonaparte of France. The beautiful culture of France had now become a part of Mexican culture.

These  events had enormous impact on the state of Jalisco and the towns/villages/cities within that region such as Arenal, Guadalajara and Tequila, to name a few.  The Tequila Marengo name was resurrected from Don Joaquin Gonzalez Lara’s grandfathers horse whose name was Marengo – meaning gray/silver in color in Spanish, and the rich cultural heritage belonging to Napoleon’s influence on Mexico.

Mexico’s love for romance, rodeos, music, fine bred horses, Caballeros, Charros, and fine ladies have produced the finest, purest, and best tasting tequila in the world. It is now being distributed in association with Distillery El Limon and Bebidas LLC in the United States and throughout the world.

BLANCO/SILVER

The origin of any tequila is the “material prima seleccionada" or one

would say the “selection of the original material” used for the making of

the tequila and the process of the primary material as it is distilled, aged and bottled.

Tequila Marengo 100% Natural Silver/Blanco originates from the premium Agave Azul (tequilana weber). The agave source used for Tequila Marengo is privately owned. The preparation of the land, and the selection of the best agave hijuelos (starting plants) for planting is important to the continued quality of the final product.  The care and nurturing of the agave growth during the 7 to 8 years of maturation to the jima or cosecha (harvest) is done selectively and always

supervised by one owner and his family.

The process used for the cooking and/or transformation (mamposteo) of the agave is by oven utilizing the most historical, natural and traditional method.  Thus providing all the time required for the agave to reach optimal maturation.

Tequila Marengo takes pride in the following method of fermentation. Without the use of any accelerants/chemical catalysts or additives for taste enhancements or color the agave is shredded, than fermented under its own natural process for more then 48 hours (2 days). After the fermentation, the product (agave) is double distilled. Supervision and careful direction of the distillery is handled by the Tequila Master, having over 30 years of experience producing quality tequilas.   The Tequila Master develops and enhances the distinct quality, pureness, and renown taste of Tequila Marengo in compliance with all legal requirements for global consumption by the Government (Mexico and Jalisco), Secretary of Health and Regulatory Counsel for Tequila.
